Mr. Halliday:
Mr. Speaker, in view of the obvious ground-swell of deep public concern over this matter, as evidenced by numerous representations, including a telegram I received this morning from the president of Local 636 of the UAW on behalf of its 2,500 members, and also a telephone call from the management and staff of Standard Tube of Woodstock, all indicating serious concern-

Mr. Halliday:
Mr. Speaker, this is new evidence to which the parliamentary secretary did not refer. In view of the fact that the helicopter was last seen some 25 miles to the north of and off its expected course, and this was indicated to me by the president of the helicopter company, will the parliamentary secretary prevail upon the minister to re-initiate this search immediately, concentrating on the areas north and adjacent to that which has already been well covered, as explained by the parliamentary secretary.

Mr. Bruce Halliday (Oxford):
Mr. Speaker, I would like to direct a question to the Minister of National Defence, but in his absence I would address it to his parliamentary secretary, if I may. To what extent has the minister's office received telegrams, petitions and other communications indicating deep public concern over the discontinuation of this search?

Mr. Halliday:
He was a Hamiltonian, and he made one of the finest speeches I have ever heard. He pointed out the dangers we are getting into as a society, and that we are taking away all the responsibility from the individual. We are giving individuals all across the country this, that,

and the other, and the hon. member for Northumberland-Miramichi has the gall to say that this is a right of the people. Of course it is a right. That is a motherhood statement, but people have responsibilities, and I have not heard anyone here today suggest that there are responsibilities which the people of this country have to assume if they want to have the right to good quality health care.
