Mr. Knight:

Mr. Speaker, in view of the fact we have had no legislation on this matter and in view of the fact the right hon. member for Prince Albert (Mr. Diefenbaker) represents a grain area, as do many other members, particularly members from Saskatchewan, I wonder whether the government would reconsider its decision on the motion as the right hon. member for Prince Albert has stated a position contrary to the position taken by the official Conservative party? He is in agreement with the position of the NDP in the province of Saskatchewan.

Mr. Bill Knight (Assiniboia):

Mr. Speaker, in view of the fact the well worded motion of the right hon. member for Prince Albert (Mr. Diefenbaker) and the principle contained therein were turned down, I would like to move a similar motion. In view of the fact the official position of the Conservative party is to have feed grains on the open market, I move, seconded by the hon. member for Meadow Lake (Mr. Nesdoly):

That this House support orderly marketing of feed grains under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Wheat Board.

parties. I say that not because I want to cut off my friend the hon. member for Swift Current-Maple Creek (Mr. Hamilton) but because it seems to me that we should hear the spokesmen of all the parties on this subject. The hon. member for Bellechasse (Mr. Lambert) was prepared to speak on behalf of his party.

Mr. Bill Knight (Assiniboia):

Mr. Speaker, my question is for the minister in charge of the Canadian Wheat Board. In view of the fact the asking price of the Canadian Wheat Board on the international market is running somewhere around $5.60, in view of the fact that the international

price on the commodity market in Chicago has been running in the neighbourhood of $3.90, and in view of the problems in our transportation system, would the minister inform the House whether the Canadian Wheat Board is at the present time negotiating contracts and is in a position to sign contracts for the movement and sale of grain for the rest of the crop year and into the next crop year in the fall?
