Most Recent Speeches (Page 5 of 32)

Mr. Rock:
Mr. Speaker, I have attempted to give examples of how this government has allowed things to happen which are detrimental to the economy of our country. I am referring to strikes and other situations in which the government has taken no action. Since 1968 this government has capitulated whenever a strike has taken place. It has allowed our economy to deteriorate by adding more unemployment to the unemployment already caused by its policy to fight inflation. The Prime Minister (Mr. Trudeau) has publicly confessed to this policy on many occasions.
This strike is now in its sixth week, and the government continues to refuse to intervene. It has failed to put an end to the strike. It has capitulated at every turn. This government does not lead, nor is it led. It has lost its credibility, and in fact it has no moral right to remain in office after June of next year.

Mr. Raymond Rock (Lachine):
Mr. Speaker, my supplementary is directed to the Minister of Labour. Does he intend to continue the government's laissez-faire policy and allow an illegal strike to remain unsettled by default and the usual government capitulation in these matters?

Mr. Rock:
I have a supplementary question, Mr. Speaker.
May 24, 1972
Mr. Raymond Rock (Lachine):
Mr. Speaker, I would like to direct a question to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in regard to his meeting with Premier Bourassa. Would he ask the Premier of Quebec to allow Indians and Eskimos in the James Bay area to vote provincially in the future? They do not have this franchise at present.

Mr. Rock:
Mr. Speaker, I understand they have not even a constituency in that area at present.
