I see it in the bill, that is

Mr. GEARY:

It is in the bill. What

difference does it make whether I knew it on Monday or Wednesday? It is in the bill and the people of Toronto want this item passed. It is true that is not an argument why it should be passed but I am stating the facts in

(Mr. Elliott.]

opposition to what has been said by hon. members opposite. There are some people opposed to this, always have been since 1913 and before. Those, generally speaking, are people who pass their summers on the island, they want it kept exclusively for themselves. But hundreds of thousands of the common people of Toronto want to get over there, and for the moment they are prevented because they have to pay two fares to get there. This will allow them to get on the island for one street railway fare from whatever part of Toronto in which they happen to live.

Mr. GEARY:

Are we to carry or reject

this vote on such a report before the matter has been up for discussion in the city council? That shows how far-fetched are the arguments adduced to destroy this vote.

Mr. GEARY:

They may be or may not, I do not know, but the city council have always been in favour of this work, the people of Toronto have always been in favour of it, and there has been no change in the situation that my friends can point to. That idea is only dragged in because of some newspaper editorial that my hon. friend has read.
