Mr. Speaker, under the provisions of Standing Order 43, I ask for the unanimous consent of the House to move the following motion.
Considering the scope of the recommendations in the report of the National Energy Board published on February 28 past; considering the precarious and uncertain situation of eastern Canada following reduced fuel supplies from Iran; considering the decision of Exxon Corporation to divert oil supplies meant for Canada to the United States, I move, seconded by the hon. member for Shefford (Mr. Rondeau):
That the government seriously consider the possibility of extending the Sarnia-Montreal gas pipeline into eastern Canada so that the energy needs of that part of the country are met and that we are no longer dependent on multinationals and oil exportating countries.
