Mr. BRASSET:

I should like to ask the minister a question. For the last few years I have asked him to spend a few dollars on some small rivers in my constituency. Under the Liberal regime and before 1930 I understand that a sum of several thousand dollars was spent every year to remove boulders in the district of Gaspe in small rivers where fishing boats were operating all the year

round, but I have received a letter from the deputy minister saying that this amount is no longer provided and that there was no money appropriated for the removal of boulders. In view of that I was very much surprised to see that at the point which has just been mentioned by my hon. friend from Temiscouata (Mr. Pouliot) several thousands of dollars were spent for removal of boulders at a point where such work was not necessary for navigation, and at the same time I was refused money for the removal of boulders in the county of Gaspe where the work would have been of benefit to fishermen who are using boats there all the year round. I would ask the minister if he will not agree to spend some money for the removal of these boulders down in Gaspe. The work is very much needed and unless it is done some of these harbours will be completely blocked and the fishermen cannot continue fishing.
