Mr. Alexander:

Yes, 1 am leaving. Sometimes I have mixed emotions about that. What I noticed was this. We see the President of the Treasury Board sitting with his officials, which gives some indication that he is rarin' to go. He was prepared to go on but it is only the President of the Treasury Board who is going as far as the agreement is concerned. As I understand it, there is an agreement in existence right now that it is the President of the Treasury Board who was to be questioned today, notwithstanding what the hon. member to my left has said.

Hon. Lincoln M. Alexander (Hamilton West):

Madam Speaker, now that we are talking about airports, and now that the minister has included Hamilton with Malton in answer to a question raised by the hon. member for Hamilton-Went-worth, has the minister now had an opportunity to discuss the expansion of Mount Hope airport with his colleague, the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development?

Can he now tell the people of Hamilton why he so blatantly broke the promise which his government gave to the city of Hamilton whereby it committed $100 million to the upgrading of the Mount Hope airport?

Mr. Alexander:

That is nonsense. I have listened to the minister flim-flamming the opposition with respect to that question. This has been going on for some eight or nine years.

Mr. Alexander:

I am just coming to the question, Madam Speaker. Either the minister has not been briefed, or he does not know what his job is all about. I would ask the minister this question: Can I have a firm commitment from the minister that he will bring down a decision one way or the other, so that we can remove the doubt and the haziness as a result of the incompetence of this government by the end of July, because I understand that is how long we are going to sit? Can I have that commitment, so that the people of Hamilton can know just what is going on? Is the minister capable of giving me that answer?
