Mr. HACKETT.

I desire to call the attention of the Postmaster General (Hon. Mr. Mulock) to the fact that we have had no mails from Prince Edward Island for the last eight days. What steps has he taken to overcome this difficulty ? I know the government has two steamships blocked in the ice, and while these ships are not available, I want to ask the Postmaster General if he is going to have the mails conveyed by ice boat from Cape Traverse to Cape Tormentine, as formerly.

Mr. HACKETT asked :

Is the government aware that a ballot-box, containing the ballots cast at Greenmount, Poll No. 5, on November 7, 1900, was stolen from the government railway train between Alberton and Summerside, on or about the 10th day of November last, when said ballots were ordered by Judge McLeod to be produced before him for recount in the West Prince election? What action, if any, has been taken by the government to discover the thief and have him brought to justice ?

What amount of money was expended at Skinner's Pond, Prince County, P.E.I., for harbour improvements at that place during the year 1900? v

Was a special appropriation made for this work, and if not, out of what vote was the money taken ?

What engineer recommended the work, and the date of his report?

On what date was the work commenced, and when stopped? The name of foreman, with number of days employed and wages paid him per diem?

Names of men employed, with number of days and wages paid each?

Names of men with teams, giving number of days employed and wages paid?

Has the department settled with and paid Mr. John Doyle, owner of the land taken for this work?

Is it the intention of the department to continue the work this season?
