My question is directed to the Minister of Agriculture. Some chartered banks have now changed their lending policy to farmers and are not prepared to grant farm improvement loans, giving as a reason that the interest rate is too low. Has the minister any comment to make on this subject?

Mr. Speaker, it seems that all who have spoken on this motion have expressed the opinion that the subject should be directed to the attention of the standing committee on agriculture. I can add little to what has already been said and I will simply move, seconded by my hon. friend from Saint-Hyacinthe-Bagot (Mr. Ricard), that the motion be directed to the standing committee on agriculture and that the house adjourn.
