Mr. Bradley:

Under the Ilsley report that amount would be payable without proof of maltreatment to prisoners of war held by the Japanese. A conference was held recently 68108-335*

Supply-Secretary of State with representatives of men who had been prisoners of war in Germany, and the matter is now under consideration.

Mr. Bradley:

Yes. The Department of National Defence requires $468,000, roughly. They have a contingent in the Ottawa ceremony, and there will be some 700 or 800 servicemen over in London. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will require $75,200, and there is $100,000 for the expenses of the Canadian mint in connection with the production of the school children's medallion.

Mr. Bradley:

Mr. Chairman, at the time

the estimates were prepared the department did not have its position sufficiently far advanced to make a recommendation for certain special plant and equipment which they required. This is an amount to cover that additional plant and equipment.
