Mr. Robert Simpson (Churchill):

Mr. Speaker, I have a question for the Minister of Transport. Can he say whether any recommendation has been transmitted to his department from the National Harbours Board or any other source concerning a very necessary dredging program at the port of Churchill?

Mr. Robert Simpson (Churchill):

Mr. Speaker, I have a question for the Secretary of State. In his absence I will direct it to the Acting Secretary of State. In view of the fact that large amounts of money are allotted annually on behalf of culture and art, is the hon. gentleman aware of the deplorable fact that the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in Toronto is reported to be entirely without financial support or assistance to allow for proper maintenance and improvement of facilities? Will the Acting Secretary of State look into this situation and make every effort to

provide a moderate source of financial assistance for this worthy project?

Mr. Robert Simpson (Churchill):

Mr. Speaker, I have a supplementary question for the Minister of the Environment. Has the minister received a request from the council or the people of the South Indian Lake area of Manitoba for a meeting with the minister with regard to their concern about the damage that may be caused to the ecology and the environment of the lake and surrounding area because of the recent decision to raise the level of the lake to 850 feet? If so, is the minister prepared to meet with the council as requested?

Mr. Robert Simpson (Churchill):

Mr. Speaker, I have a question for the Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs with reference to a recent survey of food costs carried out in 21 northern Manitoba communities under the authority of the medical services branch of the Department of National Health and Welfare. The report states that the average cost of food in these 21 communities is 73 per cent higher than the cost of comparable food in Winnipeg. I should like to ask the minister whether this report has been brought to his attention and whether he intends to look into this unacceptable situation.
