Mr. Schreyer:

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, and I thank hon. members for their courtesy, or should I say for their grace.

In my opinion, if this government is serious in its intent, to quote from the Throne Speech, "that farmers of this country may enjoy living and working standards comparable with those of Canadians engaged in other occupations", it must begin to act simultaneously on two fronts. It must implement the rural rehabilitation concept by reselling farm lands and retraining the people who are then moved. It must at the same time implement meaningful farm price legislation to cover basic volumes of farm production per unit. Only thus can the problem be attacked in a successful way. I believe this to be the prevailing opinion of the people I represent, and it is certainly my opinion.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
