Hon. D. S. Harkness (Calgary Centre):

Mr. Speaker, I wish to direct a question to the Prime Minister. What government department-I presume either Indian Affairs or Public Works-will be letting the contracts for the proposed new highway up the Mackenzie River valley, and what detailed surveys, if any, of the route have been carried out?

Mr. Harkness:

Mr. Speaker, I wonder if any consideration has been given to placing the Royal Canadian Engineers in charge of this project?

Hon. D. S. Harkness (Calgary Centre):

Mr. Speaker, I should like to address a question to the Minister of National Defence. Has the government decided to purchase Scorpion armoured fighting vehicles for the use of the Canadian forces? If so, how many of these vehicles are to be secured?

Mr. Harkness:

Would the minister tell the House what units are to be supplied with these armoured fighting vehicles? Will it be merely forces overseas or also armoured units in Canada?

Hon. D. S. Harkness (Calgary Centre):

My question is also for the Minister of Transport, Mr. Speaker. I am sure the minister is aware of the urgent need for more air routes in western Canada, particularly for Calgary and Edmonton. Has the minister had any discussions with United States cabinet ministers on the renegotiation of the bilateral air treaty with the United States, and can he give any information about when these negotiations will be concluded and the new treaty signed?
