Mr. Lind:

I should like to ask the hon. member whether the large increase in the cost of building homes has been related to the cost of building materials, the cost of construction or the cost of land over the last eight years? Second, I understood the hon. member to say that lumber costs had risen five times from the period 1935-39 to the present time and I should like to ask whether wholesale lumber prices today, even with the 13 per cent increase in freight rates and the 11 per cent sales tax, are any greater than they were in the years 1958 and 1959.
