The province of Alberta owns and controls all the telephone lines in the province, having bought out the Bell Telephone Company at great cost, and the government feel it would be against the interests of the people to have any competition in telephone lines which might be given under this section as it stands.

I might inform the committee that Strathcona is a very important city. It has over 6,000 population, is the university centre of Alberta, and is also the seat of learning for theological colleges. We are looking for great advancement in the near future, and we do not think we are getting too much for this building.
