Mr. ZIMMERMAN.

There is considerable cloth made in Canada at the present time for the tunics. The cloth for the men's tunics is made here.

Mr. ZIMMERMAN.

We heard that same absurd speech with regard to the post office property that was bought at Winnipeg. The government held that property but a very

few months when it could have turned it over at $100,000 advance on the price paid. That condition lias prevailed in the west and we cannot understand it in the east. Take a city the size of Edmonton ; I priced ordinary lots there last summer for which they wanted $700 a foot. Hon. gentlemen talk about the large buildings put up by the government. What are the banks doing ? The banks are showing the greatest example of what they think of the future. There are no such buildings in this part of the country as the banks are erecting in the west, not only in Edmonton and Winnipeg but in the whole of the west. Even in the dull little town of Rossland the Bank of Montreal have a magnificent building. I was in Dauphin last summer and the people were claiming that there was a population of about 2,000 and 2,500. The most optimistic I met stated that there were at least 2.500 people. Dauphin is so situated that it is going to be a very important point. There is no doubt that it will be the distributing centre for the people all the way up to the Pas and Winuipegosls and I certainly think from what I ascertained as to rhe values of western land last fall that $0,000 for a lot in Dauphin is a very reasonable price. I am judging that from my own personal observation on the ground.
