Mr. DONNELLY.

I would like to call the attention of the minister in a general way to the fact that the people of the inland constituencies of western Ontario, being large purchasers and consumers of imported goods, contribute largely to the revenue of this country, while they receive a very small return in the way of the erection of public buildings. I wish to say to the hon. minister that the town of Chesley is a thriving and progressive town, fast becoming quite a manufacturing centre, and I would like to have his assurance that, as soon as the finances of the country will be in such shape that he can go on and erect public buildings, he will then take up the matter of the Chesley post office, and have it provided for in the estimates at an early date.

Then the hon. minister did send an inspector just previous to the election?

Mr. DONNELLY.

In the estimates of iast year there was an item of $5,000 for the erection of a post office at the town of Chesley. I suppose that the same reason that the hon. minister has given for striking out the other items would apply to the striking out of that item.
