Robert James Manion (Minister of Railways and Canals)

Conservative (1867-1942)

Mr. MANION:

I have had many telegrams from bodies out there, claiming that the Canadian National Railways have discontinued the work. The reason for this action is that the earnings of the national railways have been decreased this year, necessitating a lessening 6f the charges on the railway. But having received so many complaints with regard to the great hardship that will be caused, I have made enquiries of the national railways and I am at present consulting with them in an effort to have at least enough work carried on to relieve unnecessary distress.
