Mr. WOODSWORTH:

Mr. Chairman, I think it is very unfortunate indeed that this grant should be cut down. Last year a deputation representing all sections of the House waited upon the Prime Minister and asked for a larger sum. I cannot see why such an important item should receive this scant attention at the hands of the government. I notice that the total to be spent for the health of the people is only $600,000. On the preceding page the vote for health of animals is over $2,000,000. It is absurd to spend $2,000,000 for that purpose and only half a million dollars in caring for the health of the people. 1 think the minister ought to explain the reason for the reduction.
