"Dear Sir,-Notwithstanding I had you appointed to your present position upon the recommendation of your friends at Frankford, I am now informed by them that you have entirely forfeited their confidence and right to maintain the position which you now hold. You will therefore let me have your resignation at once, otherwise I shall have to take it up with the Department and have you dismissed.
"If I do not hear from you within the next week I shall take it up with the Department.
