Rodney Edward Murphy (Whip of the N.D.P.)

New Democratic Party

Mr. Rod Murphy (Churchill):

Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present a petition on behalf of people in Nova
Scotia, mainly from Halifax, but also from other parts of that province and Canada. The people from Nova Scotia in their petition express concern with the Government's proposals regarding child care. They believe it neither contains national objectives nor necessary funding arrangements and, as a result, will not ensure that families have access to higher quality child care.
Whereas the proposed Child Care Act is not in the best interests of young children, women or families in Canada, the undersigned call upon Parliament to withdraw the Child Care Act forthwith. The petitioners have signed the petition and the petition has been certified by the Clerk of Petitions.
