Mr. Simon de Jong (Regina East):

Mr. Speaker, my question is addressed to the Minister of State for Finance. The Minister is, of course, aware of the hearings which the Finance Committee held on bank charges. He is also aware of the representations the small business community across Canada has been making to him and to Members of Parliament that many of the same recommendations, made concerning bank service charges to the consumer, by the Finance Committee, be applied to small business. Many small businesses feel captured by the banks and feel that they are unable to object to many unfair charges imposed by the banks.
Is the Minister prepared to act on behalf of the small business community of Canada against the big banks?
