Hon. Roch La Salle (Minister of Public Works):

First, Mr. Speaker, Hon. Members will be pleased to learn that this Government is committed to encourage significant private sector investments.
As to our Government's decision to dispose of surplus buildings, the answer to the Hon. Member's question is this: 250 real estate deals have been concluded so far; $60 million will be added to the public treasury; Canadians will save close to $4 million in terms of taxes and services related to vacant buildings; and, finaly, more interesting still, we have learned that the private sector might invest in excess of $1 billion. That, Mr. Speaker, is what we on this side of the House call good business!
