The department is not aware of the present owner or owners of the sold portion of this reserve. The reserve, comprising an area of 15,906-38 acres, was surrendered by the Indians on the 23rd of June, 1897, to be sold for their benefit, and 14,860-35 acres of the reserve have been sold, paid for and patented, with the exception of four fractional quarter sections which have been sold but not patented ; there remaining unsold Sugar island, containing an area of 1,046-03 acres, which is still held by the department in trust for the Indians.
