December 4, 1979 (31st Parliament, 1st Session)

PC

Robin Mark Richardson

Progressive Conservative

Mr. Robin Richardson (Beaches):

Mr. Speaker, 1 rise, under the provisions of Standing Order 43, to seek the unanimous consent of the House on a matter of urgent and pressing necessity.

In view of the serious situation in Iran and the plight of the U.S. hostages and the concern which 1 am sure we all feel about the momentous decisions facing President Carter, 1 move, seconded by the hon. member for Erie (Mr. Fretz):
Thai this House call upon the people of Canada to pray for Divine Guidance for President Carter and the people of the United States in this hour of their need, and that as a symbol of our support of the American people in their determination not to yield to blackmail and in their demands for the safe return of the hostages, that this House authorize the ringing of the bells in the Peace Tower at twelve noon each and every day until the U.S. hostages in Iran are released.
