Hon. Jean Chretien (Saint-Maurice):
Mr. Speaker, I would like to ask a question of the Prime Minister, in the absence of the Minister of Finance. During the election campaign, the Prime Minister and his party promised substantial tax relief to Canadian taxpayers. Yesterday, the Minister of Finance went to New York and told his audience that tax relief was out of the question. How does the Prime Minister expect anyone to have any confidence in his party's credibility, in light of this further major reversal of policy and the flagrant disregard for promises made to the Canadian people?
