Mr. John Rodriguez (Nickel Belt):

Mr. Speaker, I rise under the provisions of Standing Order 43 to ask the unanimous consent of the House to deal with a matter of urgent and pressing necessity. In view of the fact that the possibility of a spring or summer election has been the primary excuse for not giving the employees of the House of Commons, members of parliament staff and the library of parliament their annual increases which are now a month and a half overdue, I move, seconded by the hon. member for Yorkton-Melville (Mr. Nystrom):
That this House instruct the government to immediately introduce a 9 per cent wage increase for employees of the House of Commons and library of parliament and to reconsider plans to re-evaluate the work of employees of members of parliament so that they may begin to be paid salaries that reflect the work they do.
