PC

Ramon John Hnatyshyn (Deputy House Leader of the Official Opposition; Progressive Conservative Party Deputy House Leader)

Progressive Conservative

Mr. Ray Hnatyshyn (Saskatoon-Biggar):

Mr. Speaker, I rise on a matter of urgent and pressing necessity under the provisions of Standing Order 43. Whereas the people of Canada have a right to know the true rate of inflation in Canada, and whereas the government appears to be hiding behind a temporary artificial drop in the consumer price index, I move, seconded by the hon. member for St. John's East (Mr. McGrath):
That this House request that the Minister of Industry, Trade and Commerce direct Statistics Canada to publish data showing the rate of inflation without the sales tax cuts, which is the rate voters will experience after the fall election.
