October 20, 1976 (30th Parliament, 2nd Session)

PC

A. Daniel McKenzie

Progressive Conservative

Mr. Dan McKenzie (Winnipeg South Centre):

Mr. Speaker, I rise on an issue of urgent and pressing necessity under the provisions of Standing Order 43. In light of the statements made by the Minister of Transport last Friday in Winnipeg promising to review the proposed location of the new Canadian National Railways piggyback terminal because of the economic disadvantages to the CNR and the harm to the surrounding residential community, I move, seconded by the hon. member for Marquette (Mr. Stewart):
That this House direct the Ministry of Transport to request that the CNR halt further construction of the new terminal until an independent inquiry can be established to review the whole matter with a view to selecting an alternative site.
