Mr. David Lewis (York South):

Mr. Speaker, I have a question that I wished to direct to the Minister of Finance, but in his understandable absence I should like to ask it of the right hon. Prime Minister. The question arises from a statement by a spokesman for the life insurance companies that they were considering getting out of the mortgage field for single dwellings, for homes, and leaving that to the banks. I ask the right hon. gentleman whether the government have taken note of this statement, the implementation of which would result in a further lessening of funds available for housing, and what they contemplate doing about it.
