Right Hon. L. B. Pearson (Prime Minister):

Mr. Speaker, I understand the O.A.S. meeting in Washington has approved of a force to go to the Dominican Republic under O.A.S. auspices, to help maintain peace. This force has been conceived, we understand, for the maintenance of order in a troubled situation in a Latin American country and would consist of contingents from Latin American countries, along with the United States. The operation will take place under the authority of the Organization of American States of which Canada, of course, is not a member.
