Liberal

Hon. Maurice Lamoniagne (Secretary of State):

1. I am informed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that in 1961 a petition was received from "1'Association Ca-nadienne-frangaise de la Colombie-Britan-nique" requesting the extension of the French radio network to the Vancouver region.
(a) A reply was sent to the secretary-general of the association explaining the formula applied by the corporation in carrying out its extension of coverage program to Canadians of both official languages.
(b) The petitioners were informed that, as the estimated costs on a per capita basis were considerably higher than the costs estimated for many other areas of Canada also without service, the provision of French language stations in British Columbia would be considered after the areas with a lower cost per capita had been served.
(c) Yes, see 1 (b).

2 and 3. Government policy in this respect is to be considered after the Fowler Committee on Broadcasting has made its report.
