Hon. Judy V. LaMarsh (Minister of National Health and Welfare):

The federal government has not been officially informed on the details of the Ontario proposals for the expansion of medical, dental and nursing training facilities. However, officers of the Department of National Health and Welfare have been working closely with Ontario officials in a careful study of health needs. This is part of a continuing program of appraisal.
As far as the federal government is concerned, it is hoped to be able to establish a nation-wide picture of needs in this area, and this forms part of the analysis of the royal commission report on health services. This analysis is nearing completion and, as mentioned earlier in the House of Commons, it should be possible to make proposals to the provinces early next year.
