Hon. Paul Marlin (Essex East):

Mr. Speaker, may I ask the Secretary of State for External Affairs if he can tell us whether, as reported in today's press, Canada has made formal representations to the government of the United States regarding its decision to resume nuclear tests. The minister mentioned discussions yesterday, but the press today reports that there were formal discussions, involving a two hour conference between our ambassador in Washington and the secretary of state of the United States. The story goes on to report that the representations Canada made were to the effect that these tests should not be resumed whether or not the United States was able to reach agreement with the Soviet union in the matter.
