Mr. H. W. Herridge (Kootenay West):

Mr. Speaker, I wish to direct a question to the Minister of Public Works, and I regret not having sent him notice. It is inspired from listening to his broadcast last night and realizing that he can meet nearly every situation. My question concerns the members of the fairer sex who work in this building. In view of the almost impossible condition of the sidewalk at the crossing on Wellington street in front of the parliament buildings, and in view of the apparent inability of the city of Ottawa to provide even one man for one hour to shovel the snow away, will the minister instruct one member of the House of Commons staff to dig a path through the snow so as to make it unnecessary for members of the fairer sex to have their pedal extremities and other adjacent areas saturated?
Hon. D. J. Walker (Minister of Public
Works): Mr. Speaker, I will have to seek the permission of the mayor of Ottawa to encroach on her preserves, but I will be glad to do so.
