Right Hon. J. G. Diefenbaker (Prime Minister):

Mr. Speaker, the Department of External Affairs has been in touch with our embassy in the Dominican Republic, and Canadians there are reported to be in no immediate danger. There are some 160 Canadians, of whom two thirds are Protestant and Catholic missionaries. The rest are businessmen and their families. If at any time it becomes apparent that they are in any danger, immediate action will be taken to ensure their safety.
