however to keep it in repair as long as it is not costly because I can see that before long, if the hon. gentleman examines the subject, he may come to the conclusion that it would be a good thing to grant the right to use the water-powers. It would be an immense water-power, because there is about 80 feet of a chute. The canal is not in operatioit to-day to any great extent but it requites to be kept in repair because otherwise it would go to decay very soon.
