Right Hon. L. S. St. Laurent (Prime Minister):

Mr. Speaker, many of us already have been informed of the very tragic event that occurred a few moments ago in this house in the sudden death of our very esteemed colleague, beloved by all of us, Mr. MacDougall, the hon. member for Vancouver-Burrard.
I think that it would be fitting, in view of the fact that this tragic event has occurred in this very building, at the moment he was to proceed to answer the call of the bell to take part in our deliberations this afternoon, that we might adjourn the house as a tribute to his memory and as an indication to all his friends of how terribly shocked we are at this tragic event. I would like to move, seconded by the Leader of the Opposition, that this house do now adjourn.
