Hon. Lionel Chevrier (Minister of Transport):

I should like to answer a question asked the other day by the hon. member for Queens (Mr. McLure) concerning the operation by the Canadian National Railways in Prince Edward Island of both bus and railway services.
The Canadian National Railways officers advise me now that they have been endeavouring for some time to secure the approval of the government of Prince Edward Island to a plan of co-ordination of services which would permit the railway to substitute bus operation for passenger train operation on all sections of the island except between Charlottetown and Borden, where train operation would be continued. In the opinion of the Canadian National Railways this would provide the people on the island with a better service and at the same time permit the railway to effect certain economies.
