LIB

Mr. HOWE: (Minister of Munitions and Supply)

Liberal

1. The Department of Munitions and Supply requested the Department of Mines and Resources to have this deposit investigated and the reports showed that there is no proven tonnage of ore of commercial interest. From the information available, and from previous exploration and development work, and from the geological associations of the ore, the probability of proving any attractive tonnage of commercial ore appears poor.
2. Thus far the exploration made does not indicate an ore body as chemically suitable as Newfoundland ore for the production of iron, nor in quantities which would be reliable and economic as a source of supply.
3. Answered by 1 and 2.
