Madam Deputy Speaker:
I declare the motion lost. [English]
Mr. Riis:
Madam Speaker, on a short point of order. The motion we just voted on was put forward in the name of the hon. member for Regina-Lumsden. In a few more days he will have served 25 years in the House. This is probably the last motion he will put before the House of Commons. I thought the members would want to give him a hand for his many years of service.
Hear, hear.
Madam Deputy Speaker:
The hon. member for Regina-Lumsden has been a long-standing member of our House. This may be his last motion but we will miss him.
Mr. Les Benjamin (Regina-Lumsden):
Madam Speaker, I appreciate the thoughtfulness of my House leader, my colleague, and I appreciate those who supported me on this matter.
I am so saddened by the fact that my motion encompassed the things the government members spoke in favour of when they were the opposition and VIA Rail was ruined. I deliberately incorporated their wording.
I am sorry to say this but I cannot stand those who go back on their own word.
Madam Deputy Speaker:
It being 6.45 p.m., the House stands adjourned until tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 24(1).
The House adjourned at 6.45 p.m.
