Mr. Gauthier:

Mr. Speaker, I take it that we are now proceeding to vote on the Private Member's Motion that was deferred until today.

1 would suggest that, following our practice, and after consulting with my many friends in this place, we agree that you go row by row, Mr. Speaker. Since it is a free vote, it is up to individual Members to express their vote according to their conscience.

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS-MOTIONS NUCLEAR ARMAMENTS ADVISABILITY OF DECLARING CANADA A NUCLEAR ARMS FREE ZONE

The House resumed consideration from Friday, December 11, consideration of the motion of Mr. Young: That, in the opinion of this House, the Government should consider the advisability of declaring Canada a nuclear arms free zone by prohibiting the deployment, testing, construction and transportation of nuclear weapons and associated equipment through and within Canada, the export of goods and materials for use in the construction and deployment of nuclear arms and further, the Government should encourage cities, provinces and states throughout the world to take similar action.

The Acting Speaker (Mr. Paproski):

It is at this point that I would like to remind Hon. Members that the voting will begin with those Members who are in favour of the motion in the rows to my right. They will rise by row, and then those Members in the rows to my left will rise later. I will ask those Members who are opposed to the motion in the rows to my right to rise, and end with those Members opposed to the motion in the rows to my left.
