Mr. Andrew Brewin (Greenwood):

Mr. Speaker, I wonder if I might ask a supplementary question and address it to the Secretary of State for External Affairs. Can he tell us whether the review of our external and defence policies includes an examination of the problem posed by NATO aid being used to bolster military dictatorship which disregard the rule of law and fundamental human rights but are still within the treaty?

Order, please. I wonder

whether the question is not too wide in scope to be asked at the present time. However, perhaps it might be allowed and the minister permitted to reply.

If the hon. gentleman was referring, for example, to the question of Greece which has been in the news recently,

I can say that the only military aid we are giving to that country consists of some spare parts for training aircraft. We are not supplying any ammunition, weapons, or any kind of offensive military equipment.
