Lucien Lamoureux (Speaker of the House of Commons)
Liberal
Mr. Speaker:
Order, please. I suggest that this question be placed on the order paper.
On the orders of the day: Mr. R. E. Regimbal (Argenteuil-Deux- Montagnes): Mr. Speaker, I should like to direct my question to the Minister of Trade and Commerce. There were several radio February 22, 1966 COMMONS reports in Montreal during the past week end to the effect that Ireland had withdrawn its application to participate in Expo '67 because of the fact that some $1| million worth of sweepstake tickets had been seized by the R.C.M.P. in recent weeks. My question is, has Ireland actually withdrawn its application to participate in Expo '67?
Mr. Speaker:
Order, please. I suggest that this question be placed on the order paper.
On the orders of the day:
Mr. Reid Scott (Danforth):
Mr. Speaker, I want to ask the Solicitor General a question. A few weeks ago the minister in reply to a question said he would announce the policy of the government regarding parole prior to the vote on capital punishment. Can the minister tell the house when we may expect his announcement on this important matter?
Hon. L. T. Pennell (Solicilor General):
Mr. Speaker, I do not think I used the exact words quoted by the hon. member. I believe I said that the question he raised would be met during the course of the debate. However, I will take his question as notice now.
On the orders of the day:
Mr. Stanley Knowles (Winnipeg Norfh Centre):
Mr. Speaker, may I direct a question to the Minister of Transport. Has the government yet reached a decision as to what air line will be permitted to fly the route between Toronto and Los Angeles?
Hon. J. W. Pickersgill (Minister of Transport):
No, sir.
Mr. Knowles:
A supplementary question, Mr. Speaker. May we assume that it will be Air Canada?
Mr. Pickersgill:
Mr. Speaker, the hon. gentleman can make any assumptions he likes. The government will make the decision.
Hear, hear.
Mr. Knowles:
The government or the minister?
Liberal arrogance.
DEBATES 1589
Inquiries of the Ministry
Mr. L. M. Brand (Saskatoon):
Mr. Speaker, I have a question for the Minister of Transport. It was intended to be supplementary to one already asked but Your Honour could not hear me a few questions ago. In view of the amazing statement the minister made a short while ago, that the government makes the decisions as to air routes, will the minister see about changing the DC-9 air routes so they stop in Regina and Saskatoon-
And Halifax.
Mr. Brand:
-and Halifax, as my hon. friend has said, since the minister apparently has this power?
