This is a very easy way to start an argument.

Mr. Pickersgill:

Mr. Speaker, I should like to put a question to the Minister of Finance. Has the letter from the premier of British Columbia, to which I alluded in an earlier question, already been tabled in the house during the present session?

Mr. Speaker:

I think it is unnecessary to ask a question the answer to which is readily available to all hon. members.

Mr. Pickersgill:

On the point of order you have raised, sir, it had been suggested to me that it had been tabled. I have been searching to find out whether it has been tabled, and it seems to me a matter that would be clearly within the recollection of the minister, the

only person who could have tabled it. For the convenience of hon. members I was simply asking whether the minister would say whether this had happened.

Hon. J. W. Pickersgill (Bonavisia-Twil-lingale):

I have another question I wish to put to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. Has the hon. lady seen the article in yesterday's edition of her favourite newspaper, the Toronto Star, which is headed "Proxy Bride Barred, He Quits Canada"? It refers to a Polish immigrant by the name of Wilk, and the article suggests a rather inhumane attitude on the part of the minister. Has she any comment to make on this case?

Hon. Donald M. Fleming (Minister of Finance):

Mr. Speaker, when it is timely and proper to make an announcement of that date it will be made, but I draw your attention to the fact that the hon. member for Essex East preceded his question with an observation and I think it is my right to make an observation.

Mr. Fleming (Eglinton):

The last budget has not yet passed all phases of the parliamentary process, and at the present time the hon. member is trying to make it appear that there has been some delay. There has been no delay, and I think it ill behooves hon. members in the opposition to be making distortions of the facts.

Order. I think the minister and the hon. member for Essex East have gone equally far afield, and we might close the debate.
