Mr. Stanley Knowles (Winnipeg North Centre):

Mr. Speaker, I wonder if the leader of the house is now in a position to make a definite statement concerning a matter about which he spoke conditionally last night. On Monday will we be dealing with the closure resolution, or will it be a motion to go into supply, or will the government ask to go into supply without a motion in order to take up supplementary estimates?

I ask the leader of the house a supplementary question. May we take it from his reply a moment ago to the Leader of the Opposition that the Prime Minister will come into the house later this day and bring to an end the war of nerves he has been conducting?

I am delighted to learn that the hon. member for Winnipeg North Centre is now in a state of nerves. One of our main objectives for the last three months has been to get him into that condition. I think the answer I have already given meets the situation.

Mr. Speaker, I may have had all the answers I can get out of the government on that question, but my supplementary question is a different one. Can we now be assured, either by the leader of the house or by the Minister of Finance, that this government, which believes in the supremacy of parliament-

Mr. Speaker, the hon. member has a great deal to say about our attitude toward parliament and the rights of parliament, but quite frankly I am forced to the conviction when I hear him that his belief as to what parliament is for is that it is a sounding board for Knowles.
