Jay Waldo Monteith (Minister of National Health and Welfare)

Progressive Conservative

Hon. J. W. Monleith (Minister of National Health and Welfare):

I should like to thank the hon. member for giving me notice of his intention to ask this question. I am unable to determine exactly whether the overpayment referred to is being recovered from current old age assistance or old age security payments. This makes a considerable difference, since in the former case it is the province which effects the recovery, while in the latter case it is the federal authority. If the hon. member will give me the details of the case or cases he has in mind I shall be glad to look into them and let him have a reply as soon as possible.

Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.)

Mr. F. S. Zaplitny (Dauphin):

Last Friday I asked the Minister of Trade and Commerce whether or not he had received a brief from the co-operative elevator association of Manitoba requesting action on his part to bring about a more equitable distribution of box cars. At that time he indicated that he had not seen the brief. I wonder if he has seen it since, and if so what action he has taken to meet that request?

POSTAGE STAMPS

METHOD OF BUYING TO OBTAIN

On the orders of the day:

CCF

Louis Harrington Lewry

Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.)

Mr. Louis Lewry (Moose Jaw-Lake Centre):

Mr. Speaker, may I direct a question to the Postmaster General, based on the announcement he made in this house on Friday, December 20, of interest to stamp collectors. He announced that there was a change made by the previous government in connection with the cessation of plate numbers on sheets of stamps.. I am wondering as a matter of clarification if he can say now whether it is necessary for stamp collectors to buy entire sheets in order to obtain new blocks of four, under the new policy of the government.

Progressive Conservative

Hon. W. M. Hamilton (Postmaster General):

Mr. Speaker, it has always been necessary for stamp collectors purchasing from the philatelic section, in order to acquire a block of four stamps, to purchase either the entire sheet or a portion of the entire sheet, depending on the value of the stamp. That policy will be continued in the future.

On the orders of the day:

CCF

Erhart Regier

Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.)

Mr. Erharl Regier (Burnaby-Coquitlam):

should like to ask a question of the Minister of Northern Affairs and National Resources. In the light of the minister's announcement indicating an active interest on his part in the development of Canadian parks and in the tourist business, will the federal government reopen negotiations with the government of British Columbia to make a national park out of Garibaldi park so the citizens of the lower mainland may at an early date

enjoy the blessings of Canada's greatest and most magnificent but as yet undeveloped playground?

Hon. Alvin Hamilton (Minister of Northern

Affairs and National Resources): The minister will take this matter under advisement.
