Mr. Harris:

I am grateful to the members of the committee for the consideration they have given during the last 50 minutes. I wonder if this air force item could pass, subject to it being understood that the hon. member will have an opportunity under any other item to make the remarks which he has indicated may be required after further study?

Mr. Barnett:

On a point of clarification, when the minister speaks of air force is he referring to the heading "Royal Canadian Air Force, regular and general" or is he including other items such as Royal Canadian Air Force (reserve), Royal Canadian Air Cadets and Royal Canadian Air Force, search and rescue?

Mr. Campney:

We are on the item air force, regular and general, but the other items covering air cadets and reserve have been discussed under this item. I should like to ask the indulgence of the committee to clear the air force, subject to the reservation made by the leader of the house, and then we can go on to defence research board and the other small items at the next sitting.

Mr. Barnett:

The minister may recall that when we were on the general item I raised some questions in respect to the Royal Canadian Air Force, research and rescue. The chairman at that time referred me to the item under this heading and suggested I should raise the point I had in mind when we reached it. I want to make sure-

Mr. Barnett:

The reference which the Minister of Finance made was not going to exclude any discussion under that heading. I do not anticipate making a 40-minute speech on the subject, but I have some questions under that particular heading.

The Deputy Chairman:

May I ask hon.

members, in order that it may be fully understood, is it the understanding of the committee that the Royal Canadian Air Force, regular, reserve and cadets, be considered as passed; that Royal Canadian Air Force, search and rescue, stands, and that before resolution 236, the over-all resolution, is passed further discussion may be held on departmental publications? Is that the understanding of the committee? Agreed.

Item stands.

Progress reported.
