1. The newly acquired mobile unit of the laboratory of hygiene is conducting a comprehensive bacteriological survey of sanitary conditions in the dairy industry and in restaurants in Prince Edward Island. This investigation is being conducted at the request of and in close co-operation with the provincial department of Health and welfare. The purpose of this investigation is to aid in the establishment by the provincial authorities of practical standards for the control of sanitation in dairies and restaurants.

2. A study of hospital sanitation in Prince Edward Island will follow the completion of the survey mentioned above.

From June to October the mobile laboratory will conduct bacteriological surveys in shellfish producing areas in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, to determine which areas are safe for the taking of shellfish for human consumption.

Other sanitation studies are also being planned.

The mobile laboratory will be available throughout the entire year to assist provincial departments of health in the investigation of public health problems of immediate concern.
