1. How are the graves of Canadian soldiers, who fell in world war II, marked in overseas cemeteries?

2. Do the inscriptions on the crosses or headstones contain the name of the soldier who fell, his corps or his regiment, if he was in the corps of infantry?

3. Are records kept in each cemetery so that a visitor can readily find the grave of an individual soldier, or those of members of any particular regiment?

1. Originally by temporary crosses. Replacement of these temporary crosses by the erection of permanent headstones is now and has been in progress for some time.

2. The temporary crosses bore the name, regiment, and date of death, of the soldier.

The permanent headstones show:-

(a) The Canadian maple leaf within an incised circle.

(b) Regimental particulars, i.e., number, rank and name.

(c) Decorations, if any.

(d) The official Canadian designation of the corps of the deceased. ,

(e) The date of death and, where possible, the age at time of death.

Infantry regiments are grouped together under Canadian Infantry Corps which is shown on the headstones.
